Art and Design

The visual arts play an important part in the life at St. Christopher's, and art lessons throughout the Lower School, from Reception to Year 3, are taught by form teachers as part of cross-curricular topics. Educational visits are followed up with a range of exciting projects which create vibrant and interactive displays.
The art and design technology programme, for Years 4 to 8, is taught by our experienced and well-qualified Head of Art, in a well-lit, designated art studio. Educational visits to major art exhibitions, both local and national, galleries, museums and local landmarks, such as Brighton Pavilion and Jubilee Library, inspire a range of projects. Local artists, architects, designers and illustrators are invited to visit the school to run a variety of workshops and seminars.
Whole school events include a Summer Exhibition and 'Open House' art shows, where sales of children's work raises money for local charities. The art department is always buzzing with activity before a variety of drama productions throughout the year. Scenery, props, posters and programmes are all designed and created by the Head of Art and senior pupils. Many opportunities are also offered to enter a range of art and design competitions, from logo design to comic illustrations, and 'The Big Draw', the national campaign for drawing.

Pupils are offered a variety of extra-curricular activities, from the DT club at Brighton College, to masterclass and art and craft workshops.
Upper school pupils, who show exceptional interest and talent, are encoucouraged to submit portfolios of work for a range of 13+ art awards and scholarships, and the school offers internal art scholarships to Year 6.
