Communities across the world celebrated Passover last weekend, Eid took place over the recent holidays, and the Easter weekend is the reason you are receiving the Newsletter on a Thursday. Many religious and cultural celebrations are moveable feasts, and it is always interesting to see how closely they fall together each year. For some of us, these are times of ritual observance and collective worship; for others they are more about gathering family and friends around the table, to celebrate what we have and that we have each other.
As you will see from page 3, the sudden sunny weather this week enabled the return of al fresco dining in the Back Court. Our Guest of Honour this week was Councillor Asaduzzaman, Mayor of Brighton & Hove, who visited following a written invitation from one of our Heads of School, joining School Council for lunch and much discussion of his role and their opinions about our city. Monday morning saw excitement in the Staff Room as a loaf of homemade bread (and proper butter) were waiting for them. Joining together to break bread, whether literally or metaphorically, is something to be celebrated with our families, our friends, neighbours, and those in our local community. Breaking bread with strangers is an excellent way to make new friends and understand new cultures and traditions. I hope you all find time over the long weekend for a special meal with special people, whatever you are celebrating with them.
The list of exciting events coming up this term continues to grow. The Parents’ Association Summer Fair, which will take place on May 17th at Glebe Villas. It is not too soon to start stockpiling jam jars for the tombola prizes, planning to share a picnic with other families, or be thinking about your contribution to the Bake Sale. We already have some very desirable items for the Raffle, including signed BHAFC football boots, a Fortnum & Mason hamper, beauty and dental treatments, and a rather fine bottle of champagne. If you know of a local business who would like to support our Raffle, please let us know. I hope to see as many of you as possible on the day itself, which will be a wonderful opportunity to explore our glorious Glebe Villas site, which some of you have yet to experience.
I wish you all a happy long weekend.
