Our fourth annual Artists Open House last weekend was a great success in glorious sunshine. From Reception’s 3D flowers made from recycled materials to the portfolios of our Year 8 Art Scholars, work by every single child in our school community was on display. Open to the public as part of the West Hove Arts Trail, it was lovely to welcome members of our local community and alumni as well. The creative arts are a vital part of the co-curricular life of our school, and it was great to celebrate them in such a fashion. My thanks to Mrs Watson and her army of helpers who made the day such a success.
The creative and performing arts are a vital part of the life of our school, and we have another event celebrating them coming up next week. Our annual Summer Concert, held al fresco in the Back Court, is a highlight of the calendar. The school seems to be filled with music and singing at the moment, as the performers take every opportunity to rehearse their pieces for the show next week. St Christopher’s has a long tradition of winning Music and Choral Scholarships to senior schools such as Brighton College and Lancing, which are known for their exceptional musical standards, and I am looking forward to some excellent performances. I hope to see many of you there next Thursday.
Before then, of course, we have yet another outdoor event in the shape of our Parents’ Association Summer Fair tomorrow. There will be stalls, games, and some splendid prizes up for grabs in the Raffle. Proceeds from the Raffle support our four House charities. I am sure lots of thought has already gone into your picnic hampers and creations for the Bake Sale.
