Every year at St Christopher’s all of our pupils hear from a wide range of interesting speakers in Assemblies enabling them to learn about a wide variety of topics and perspectives.
This term has already seen Assemblies on two very important topics that apply to children across the school, Safeguarding and Mindfulness. Separate assemblies on each have allowed us to deliver age-appropriate messages to our Pre-Prep, and then Middle and Upper School. Last week, Mr Carter spoke about Safeguarding, and this week we welcomed Mrs Kilvington to deliver a Mindfulness Assembly to Middle and Upper School, similar to the one she gave to Pre-Prep last week.
Breathing may seem a simple thing, and something that we all do without thinking, but there is far more to it than that! Mrs Kilvington gave our older children some excellent tips for dealing with stress, especially during exams.
Looking ahead at the weeks to come, School Council will lead next Monday’s Assembly, marking International Democracy Day. As you can see from this week’s photo above, they have already voted on some important decisions regarding new playground equipment. We will participate in Anti-Bullying Week, Dyslexia Awareness Week, Black History Month, World Kindness Day, World Languages Day, and our new Recycling Week initiative, all of which will be launched in dedicated Assemblies.
Religious and cultural celebrations are also part of our Assembly programme. Many in our community will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah later this month, and our first church service of the year, Harvest Festival, takes place at Hove Methodist Church on 7th October, in support of The Clock Tower Sanctuary. The whole school will observe two minutes’ silence for Remembrance Day on 11th November.
Across the year as a whole, each class and each House will have the chance to present an Assembly, and I look forward to seeing the themes and topics that they come up with.
