The Head’s reflections on the week

Posted: 5th December 2025

The festive season is truly upon us! The St Christopher’s logo at the top of the page has acquired its Santa hat, and this week’s Newsletter is packed full of seasonal fun and events.

It has been a busy week at school: three plays, a choir performance at a local care home, and Christmas Lunch was celebrated in the Hall today. Everyone looked splendid in their Christmas jumpers – staff very much included in this.

This time of year should be more about giving than receiving; a message often lost these days, but one that I am very keen that St Christopher’s children understand. In return for the chance to wear their Christmas jumpers and hat, the children gave donations to The Clock Tower Sanctuary, who do such vital work in our city at this time of year. I don’t think any of us can imagine what it must be like to be alone and homeless during the holidays, and I am proud that our community responded with such generosity this morning.

To extend the metaphor of giving, I want to talk about giving your child the gift of resilience, which will last a lifetime. “Resilience” is very much a keyword in education and parenting at present, and it is sometimes hard to keep up with all the advice about how we can prepare our children for lives in which they will naturally face setbacks and times of stress. There will be a useful webinar on The Wellbeing Hub next Wednesday evening, which you can access here Raising resilience: How to help our children thrive – The Wellbeing Hub.

My last seasonal message this week is wishing a very happy Hanukkah to all those in our community looking forward to its start on Sunday evening.
