Sport

Sport at St Christopher's centres on healthy competition, participation at all levels and, most importantly, enjoyment. The school is committed to offering positive and inclusive sports sessions for all children as well as achieving excellence at the top level. All pupils gain an opportunity to represent the school and we aim to have as many teams as possible from Years 3-8 playing on a fixture day. Teamwork is a key element in our approach and this is reflected in a strong team spirit when our boys and girls play other schools. The importance of good sportsmanship is stressed at all levels. Our A teams are selected on skill and ability to challenge our best sporting children and our B teams and below are rotated so every child gets the chance to represent the school in a match.

Our boys experience success at every level and recent achievements include winning the Ardingly, Bede's, Brambletye, Handcross Park, Shoreham College and Westbourne House Football Tournaments and the Ashdown House and Brighton College Rugby Sevens Tournaments. The 1st VI football team also reached the U13 IAPS National Football Finals in 2016 & 2017, finishing in the top 6 & top 4 IAPS prep schools in the country. The U11 team followed this success by reaching the IAPS National Football Finals in 2019. In the winter, Years 3-8 play football followed by rugby at Glebe Villas (our home ground)l. Cricket follows in the summer alongside athletics.

Our girls are successful at Netball,Hockey, and Cricket at all levels, and were U13 National Champions in the IAPS Netball Tournament in 2015 and have reached the National Finals in 2017and 2018. The girls have the opportunity to play Hockey or Football in the Michaelmas Term. They play mainly Netball in the Lent term but we also host our annual U11 Girls' Football Tournament then too. In the Summer, the girls play mainly Cricket and some Rounders and we also do Athletics in preparation for Sports Day.

Pre-Prep pupils play Football, Tag Rugby, Netball, Uni-hoc, Cricket, Rounders and Athletics, at Glebe Villas or in an indoor sports hall, in addition to their weekly PE lesson.

Many of our top sportsmen and sportswomen achieve Sports Scholarships to Brighton College, Hurstpierpoint College, Lancing College, Bede's, and Ardingly. The school has a very successful tradition of winning Sports' Scholarships in Year 8.

Sports awards are available for entry into Year 7.
