The Head’s reflections on the week

Posted: 20th March 2026

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of term, half a day shy of ten weeks. Christmas really doesn’t seem far away, and yet we are now breaking for Easter. Time to reflect on a very short, but very busy term!

Having won our annual U11 Night Lights Rugby match against BCPS this week, we reach the end of the shortest term looking back on a great deal of sporting success so far this year. We got off to a strong start with our U13A Boys Football team winning the Plate at the IAPS Tournament in September. Our U11As went on to win the Lancing Football tournament. Our U13A and U11A teams both won the Plate at IAPS Netball Tournaments, with the U13s also picking up silver medals in a different tournament. Our mixed Netball team won silver in the Mowden Cup. Our Team of the Term is the U12A Rugby squad, who won the Snell Cup in impressive style.

St Christopher’s has a long history of academic excellence as well sporting success, and this term is no different. I am very pleased to say that, as expected, assessments across the school show excellent progress being made in all curricular areas. Our Upper School performed very well in their recent exams, which bodes well for Year 8’s final exams for their senior schools in May. This week, we celebrate some fantastic news from the fiendishly difficult Townsend Warner History Prize.

I focused on Drama last week, and this week rounded off the term in Performing Arts with our Senior Drama Club on stage at Brighton College. The whole of Middle and Upper School spent yesterday in London, watching four different West End shows between them.

It is also my pleasure to announce our first Scholarship of 2026! Kyle in 8H has been awarded a Music Scholarship to Hurst. In St Christopher’s tradition, the school flag will fly in his honour for a day next term. More Scholarship news follows soon.

We have celebrated a number of events that bring the whole together, with Lunar New Year and World Book Day being recent examples. We have more whole school events coming up next term, with Make A Difference Day involving the whole school in community outreach, and House Celebration Day raising further funds for our four House Charities. Earlier this week, we received a message of thanks from the charity Place2Be for raising over £600 for them on our Dress Yourself To Express Yourself Day in support of Children’s Mental Health Week.

It was wonderful to see such a good turnout at the House Cross Country this morning, and we were very lucky to have such lovely weather.

As the rest of us prepare for a well earned break, we wish bon voyage to Mr Bell and his intrepid team as they lead the 2026 Ski Trip, which departs tomorrow.

Finally, Eid Mubarak to those in our community who are celebrating the end of Ramadan.

Ms Elizabeth Lyle, Head
