The Head’s reflections on the week

Posted: 22nd May 2026

It was lovely to see so many of you at the Parents’ Association Summer Fair last weekend. We were very lucky with the weather, given the forecasts. My thanks to Sophie Edmonds and her team for making this wonderful event possible. Our splendid PA also provided our annual Silent Disco, which brought so many smiles (but not necessarily silence) to the front playground this afternoon.

Given the weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, there were further nerves with regards to our al fresco Summer Concert yesterday evening. But of course in true St Christopher’s fashion we stage managed perfect weather for a wonderful performance that showcased everyone from Reception to our very accomplished Year 8 soloists. Almost three quarters of the school took part in the concert, which is very impressive.

Following on from this wonderful event in the Performing Arts, tickets are now on sale for Upper School’s production of Shrek The Musical at The Cairns Theatre, Brighton College, in June. The Performing Arts are a journey that starts from first steps and leads to centre stage as pupils get older, and I would very much encourage parents of younger children to bring them to this fantastic production by our Seniors, who are well known to our younger ones as their Buddies, Prefects, and House Captains.

In Drama and Music, and indeed most other areas of school life, showing younger children where practising and dedication can get you is a vital part of encouraging them to set their own goals and achieve them.

Finally, it is the time of year that we celebrate academic excellence, as the Scholarship exam results have been announced. This year, over half of our Year 8 children who sat for an award received Academic, All Rounder, or Co-curricular Scholarships, an outstanding achievement! In the long standing St Christopher’s tradition, the School Flag will fly in honour of each of the recipients for a day after Half Term.

I wish you and your families a restful break, as we look ahead to the excitement of residential trips for our older children in the week after. There is much more to come in the remaining weeks of term, and here comes the sun! Finally, I send my best wishes to all in our community celebrating Shavuot or Eid al-Adha over the coming days.
