The Head’s reflections on the week

Posted: 26th June 2026

Following on from my article on Sport last week, let us turn to the Performing Arts. There are more connections between the two than you might think. The Upper School company that is presenting the play tonight and tomorrow is a giant team, with Mrs Griffiths as Head Coach. Thomas Tuchel may have been under pressure this week, but so was she. Dare I say her results may be more impressive? As well as the players that are seen on the pitch, there are dozens of vital roles behind the scenes to ensure that everyone is properly trained, knows the drills, is in the right kit, and so forth. The Programme, lists every single member of our Upper School, as well as thirty staff members. The crucial final rehearsals took place in the week’s unprecedented weather conditions. This is a huge achievement, and I very much look forward to the show where I hope to see many of you.

In the same way that some of our pupils will have shone at our Sports Days, the Performing Arts are another opportunity for our pupils to excel. This is such an excellent opportunity for building confidence and resilience; skills that will set them up well in the future.

It has been a real treat for pupils to perform on the stage at Brighton College this week, with access to their Performing Arts team and wider production professionals, bringing their already A* performance to the next level.
