It’s been a truly remarkable few weeks in the Performing Arts. Last week saw our LAMDA Showcase, with performers from Year 2 to Year 8 presenting solo or duo pieces. Last Friday saw Year 6 present their Variety Evening, with sketches and songs alongside four very accomplished short films that they had written, acted, directed, filmed, and edited all by themselves.
Wednesday saw the finals of our World Book Day Verse Speaking Competition for the Upper School, with some very high standards on display. Our String Ensemble performed for parents this week, and we look forward to their next performance in a whole school Assembly.
Our Senior Drama Club have their final rehearsals next week before their performance of Variations at The Cairns Theatre, Brighton College, on Wednesday. It is a play set in different parallel versions of the same girl’s life, and I am very much looking forward to watching it. The Cairns Theatre is a magnificent place to put on a school play, and we will be returning to it next term for Upper School’s production of Shrek The Musical. Every member of Years 7 and 8 is part of the company for this show, from those on stage to the backstage team, the tech team, and photographers. The official t-shirt and hoodie for the production are now available, please see the banner below.
The week finished with yet another drama production, with Year 2 presenting the classic tales of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes. Pictures from this afternoon’s show will feature in the final Newsletter of term next week.
Drama at St Christopher’s is a journey that takes you from Reception’s Nativity play to the stage of the Cairns Theatre at Brighton College, with every year group presenting a production across the course of the school year. For many of our children, it is their “moment”, their chance to shine. Performing builds confidence, develops the skills of working with others, and brings great rewards when the audience laughs, applauds, and cheers.
On a final note, I hope to see many Middle and Upper School parents at the The Nevill playing fields next Friday morning for our House Cross Country event. Please note that this is a change of venue from previous years.
