The Head’s reflections on the week

Posted: 19th June 2026

As a keen sportswoman myself, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the sporting activity and chat around school this week. The football World Cup has been the topic of many conversations, particularly following England’s emphatic win on Wednesday night (other countries also participating!). Sport is such a wonderful platform bringing people together with a shared passion, either while supporting a team or being part of a team. It has not only been as a fan that we have united through sport this week, it has been so lovely seeing all the pupils and staff come together to represent their Houses at our annual Sports Days. The buzz around school this morning as pupils heard inspiring words from their House Captains, and began to prepare to overcome the butterflies and bring out their best performances for their House, has been electric.

Watching our younger pupils on the field at Glebe Villas yesterday was no less inspiring. Not only did we witness future champions in their first ever races, we saw teams come together to support one another through challenge and triumph, not least the weather. Inspired by the England team’s resilience in fierce heat, we showed resilience and got on with things in the rain!

Throughout this year St Christopher’s pupils have put on their red Games shirts with pride and represented their school in a multitude of sporting competitions with huge success. Full details will be in the forthcoming Yearbook, but I must mention the U12 Boys winning the Snell Cup in Rugby, the U13 Netball Squad who won the plate in the IAPS tournament, and the U11 Boys Football team who won the Lancing College tournament. This week, we are also celebrating the announcement of a Sports Scholarship.

All pupils have had the opportunity to compete regularly in competitive fixtures, growing in confidence as their skills improve and they enjoy success. I hope these experiences lead them to participate in sport beyond the school gates as they receive all the benefits that exercise and being part of a bigger team can bring.

I look forward to seeing many of you this afternoon.
