The final week of the year comes to an end, but rather than winding down, we’ve seen more big events in the last week than some schools manage in a month! House Celebration Day, Reception Graduation, Pre-Prep Beach Morning, the Year 5 Geography Field Trip, Year 7 Outdoor Learning, and our Year 8 Leavers on the South Downs and at Thorpe Park. All of this of course in the wake of Upper School’s fabulous performance of Shrek The Musical at Brighton College last weekend.
Our Leavers’ Assembly saw our Prize Giving for Year 8, with some of the cups awarded dating back far into the school’s history. At least two of the names engraved on the Rugby shields went on to play for England, for example. As well as academic and sporting excellence, there are also awards for Kindness, Citizenship, and Positivity; qualities which are just as important as scoring goals and passing exams.
Our Year 7 pupils sat in the Assembly eagerly awaiting the announcement of next year’s Heads of School, House Captains, Prefects, Sports Captains, and other positions of responsibility. Congratulations to all who were appointed; it was a very tough task choosing between all who applied. Inevitably, there were some who were disappointed not to hear their name called out. I would remind them that we will be awarding additional badges throughout next year, and they should make it their mission to get on our radar in September, demonstrating the qualities we look for in those who help to lead our school. As Year 7 become next year’s Year 8, I expect every single one of them to be ambassadors for the school, our aims, and ethos.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents, pupils, and staff for making me feel so welcome since joining the school in May. St Christopher’s is a truly remarkable school, with remarkable people that make it so. I look forward to returning with you all in September, to begin what is set to be another incredible year.
